Summer will be here soon, and that means warm days and road trips. However, before you hit the road this summer, you want to know your car is ready for the journey. In addition to the routine system checks, you also need to ensure your A/C is working. The last thing you want is to be stuck in traffic on a hot summer day with no A/C. Before embarking on your summer adventures, check the heating and cooling system in your car is working properly.
Did the heating and cooling system in your car survive the winter? Here are some of the most common A/C problems.
Cabin Air Filters
Clogged filters can prevent air from flowing through your vents. Replacing the air filters is a step of routine maintenance that many of us forget about until they’re so clogged that they don’t let any air through. If clogged filters are the only problem with your car’s A/C, you’re in luck. It is by far the easiest problem to fix.
Refrigerant Leaks
The A/C uses refrigerant to cool the air and lower the interior temperature of your car. If the refrigerant is leaking, the A/C cannot effectively cool the air. The hoses and seals can crack, especially after a cold winter has made the rubber brittle. It may be a bit of a challenge to find the leak, but once you identify it, replacing the damaged hose or seal will solve the problem.
Condenser Damage
The condenser is a critical component of the A/C system, but it is located in front of the radiator where it is vulnerable to damage. If your car has been in a head-on collision, it is likely that there is damage to the condenser. Depending on the extent of the damage, you will have to repair or replace the condenser.
Blower Motor Malfunction
There is a motor that blows the cooled air through your vents and into the cabin. It can malfunction due to wear and tear or electrical issues, resulting in no airflow at all. Replacing the worn-out motor usually fixes the problem and restores the airflow.
