The state of New Hampshire requires yearly inspections to ensure that all cars on the road are safe. These inspections keep both the owners of the vehicles safe as well as the other drivers who share the road. If your car fails the inspection, you won’t legally be able to drive it until you fix or replace the parts that didn’t pass inspection. To ensure that your car passes the NH state inspection, there are some things you can do yourself before you take it to Mike Brailey’s Auto for us to take a look at it.

Is your car ready for the NH state inspection? Here’s what you should check before we do.

Headlights and Tail Lights

Newer cars will alert you if a light is out, but it’s always a good idea to check for yourself. Check your headlights, tail lights, brake lights, reverse lights, and turn signals to ensure they are still working. If any are burned out, replace the lamps or let us know so we can replace them for you before we begin the inspection. If you replace a lamp, but it still doesn’t work, it’s likely an electrical problem that our technicians can also repair.

Wiper Blades

Being able to see while you drive in bad weather is essential to safety on the road. If you haven’t replaced your wiper blades in a while, check that the rubber isn’t cracked or missing any chunks. Wiper blades that won’t adequately clear your windshield won’t pass inspection, and they’re probably annoying you, anyway. The simplest solution is to replace them.

Custom Modifications

If you made any custom modifications to your car, such as to your exhaust system, make sure they align with inspection requirements. New Hampshire also requires an emissions test to pass inspection, so any modifications to your exhaust must be within state guidelines. Other modifications can also come up against state guidelines. For example, lowering the height of your vehicle or tinting your windshield and windows too much can violate state law and cause your vehicle to fail the inspection.
